During the beginning of my freshman
year, I went in telling myself I didn’t want to join a sorority. I felt like I
would be pressured to do a lot of things I wasn’t comfortable with, and I felt
like it would take up all of my time. Then I had started hearing about spirit
groups, and how they were for people who wanted to be part of a group, but not
be involved in Greek life. Again, I wanted to be involved on campus, however, I
just felt like I wasn’t the type to join any type of spirit group or anything
like that.
Towards the end of my first
semester, I was approached by a few of my friends saying they had joined a
brand new spirit group and that I should join as well. I thought about it, and
to be completely honest with you, the only reason I initially thought about
joining is because I thought it would be a good way to get my community service
hours in. I finally decided to commit and join the Ladybirds. Little did I know
it was the best decision I could have made.
Let me tell ya something. Most
spirit groups are HUGE. They call each other their “families”, but I have no
idea how they could actually have that family connection with each and every
member. I can honestly say, I DO have that family connection with all the
members of the Ladybirds. The Ladybirds are a small spirit group that is
specifically focused on family. We are all there for each other in all
circumstances. Whenever I’m having a rough day, I know I can call any of my
fellow Ladybirds, and they will instantly make me feel better.
Every time I go to a meeting, or
any planned event, like initiation of retreat, I can easily say I have a smile
on my face almost the whole time. I’m telling you, each and every one of these
girls is so bubbly, caring, generous, and loving. Why wouldn’t I be happy
around them?
Yes, we are a small group, but I
feel like that makes for even greater connections with each girl. Like I said,
the Ladybirds are a family. We talk to each other about everything, and I mean
EVERYTHING. I can honestly say I have a special connection with each girl for a
variety of reasons. These girls are my home away from home, and I love each of
them SOOOOOO much!
I think one of my favorite moments
of being a Ladybird was towards Valentines Day. I wasn’t able to make it to the
meeting where we were did Valentine-like things for each other, but I was
surprised the following day with handmade valentines from EVERY Ladybird. It
was a little gesture, but the little things are what count in my book.
If anyone is reading this and is debating about
whether or not joining a spirit group, I’m telling you from the bottom of my
heart, you will have no regrets joining the Ladybirds. If you’re looking for a
group of close-knit, loving, bubbly, caring, creative girls, the LB family is
for you!
